I'm always looking for free/cheap mods. Just can't leave well enough alone. Hello, my name is Rick, and I'm a broke modaholic. Anyway, I haven't had the time to take the bike apart yet, but found this on the internet while I was bored at work. Anyone know if these apply to a 5th gen also? I know, take the bike apart and look. Yah Yah, I'm just curious....

PAIR and Flapper mod, with bonus snorkel mod for VFR

I found that little write up as well. I did the mods to my fifth gen and heres what i found. The disconnecting of the airbox flapper is a great one as it adds to the nice intake sound, just make sure you plug the hose like they did. I tried the removal of the snorkel and i doubt it added power, but the sound is awful. It is absurdly loud and makes a strange breathing noise at idle, so i put it back in. Now for the PAIR modification. I found the plug for the pair valve to be located inside the left lower fairing. My bike has a slip on exhaust and does the little backfire bit pretty often so I was very interested in this modification. I pulled the plug and took her for a ride. All I can say is that the 5g and 6g pair valves must be different cause unplugging it on the 5g does not stop the backfires, it makes them worse. It sounded like i was riding a twelve gauge shotgun on decel. I'm sure the blockoff plates(20 bucks on ebay) will cure the issue. In the end, I only left the air box flapper modded, and have been satisfied with it. I'm on a budget too, but i do hope to spring for the pair blockoff plates this winter to cure the backfires. Hope this helps, keep it rubber side down.

Awesome. Thanks! That is what I wanted to know. I'll be putting on a slip on over the winter, guess I'll need the block off plates. I did that mod to my 919, and it worked perfectly, I was just hoping unplugging would work, because, well, its easier and cheaper. I haven't seen the plates on ebay, have you?
