Are you going to race the 86?

If not, then spare us all the LOUD pipes.

I am not trying to be a tool, but LOUD pipes on the street is one of the reasons motorcycling is under such heavy attack. Don't add to the problem.

Standard aftermarket grumbly pipes, deep throaty sounding pipes...great! No problem.

    Please think about it.

I think e-bay would be your best bet in finding aftermarket pipes for an 86. Some really interesting items show up their. However, a goggle search of aftermarket exhaust wharehouses may turn something up too.

    Good Luck.

    Thanks for clarifing:biggrin:

OK, well any of the aftermarket pipes seem to bring out the nice throaty V4 growel!

And you know what I mean when you say those "Damn Harleys".

People in Delaware are starting to get really pissed about the LOUD pipes...so I can see whats coming down the road in DE. Enforcement of the "noise" law.

Anyway, watch ebay, or someone here has a set of pipes they may want to get rid of too!

    And Welcome!

    Hey Jaymz:

Many people like the saying, buy there is no evidence to back it up.

Have you ever seen the bright green/yellow color T-shirt Aerostich makes?

It has a picture of a full riding suit and says "Loud suits save lives"
    LOL! That's funny.

I thats pretty good. I don't know about scientific evidence but my dads Harley has 2" straight pipes on it and if you can't hear that thing and not know its a Harley you have problems. He just got it and it's so loud that he's thinking of taking them off and putting something a little less ignorant on.

Nothing wrong with some rumbly pipes, but the LOUD ones...damn!

I love loud noises too. I used to shoot fireworks professionally and it was some of the hardest and most fun work I have ever done. But I would not set off a 3inch salute in my neighborhood (unless its the 4th of July). People generally do not appreciate it.

When I lived in MD a guy used to come in the neighborhood and rev his engine. Man, I had no idea that a bike could be that loud! It made the old two-stroke dirt bikes sound quiet. My wife said it best: "You love loud noises! But if he's pissing you off that says something".

I don't want to come off as someone who wants to legislate anything...I don't! But I think we ought to legislate ourselves. This is not like gun ownership, we have no constitutional right to motorcycles, so we need to police ourselves before the "you hurt my feelings" crowd taxes, bans, legislates the hell out of our passion to the point of we can't afford it anymore. All of you in CA know what I am talking about!

Ask anyone who owns a plane or helicopter on this site and I am sure they can go into all the dumbass regulations that have come out of 9-11 that won't make anyone safer, but that doesn't matter.

    Sorry for the rant:smile:

you might have to do a little research on the pipes. look in to a ducati or maybe even something that could be for a SV650 or 1000. i have heard of a few VFR owners that have used some kind of setup from another bike to achive the high pipes and sound they want.

I sugest Cobra pipes or super trapp. The super trapps you can adjust to sound the way that you want but they are expensive. I think I read a post that had a link to some on E-bay a week or so ago. I think they where for a 1000 not sure if they would fit yours but you could probably make them.

I think you guys back east have a little misconception about Cali. While it may be a highly regulated state, it's not nearly as bad as you think. When I lived in Oakland, on more than one occasion I passed people walking down the street smoking weed. Now that's freedom. I have heard more loud pipes here than anywhere I've lived. In the town I live in, there are more very tall 4x4 pickups with dirtbikes in the back than anywhere I've lived including MO, MT, TX, and MS. Granted there are some weird laws out here, but the one CA gets the most flak (no smoking in public building) I actually like. I'm a non-smoker, always have been, but didn't agree with the law until I went back home last weekend. Someone on the far side of a restaurant fired up a cig while we were eating. How rude is that? He had the right to smoke, but don't I have the right to eat without smelling his cigarette? Anyway, I think the rest of the country forgets that Cali is not LA. LA just happens to be in Cali. As far as loud pipes go, I agree that loud is ok to an extent, but there are some people here pushing it just like anywhere else and it's getting pretty ridiculous. Even straight pipes on a VF500 wouldn't be as loud as some of the bikes (usually harley's) I hear around my neighborhood. And those guys are giving all of us a bad name!

It was me that posted that Ebay link for the Supertrapps not that long ago. I recall reading on here that pipes off of a VTR1000 will work on the VF750. Not sure about the 500..but its something to consider.

Delaware has the smoking law too, and like you reg I like it.

I don't base my assumptions on all the citizens of Cali, but when you look at the track record of the wackiest crap in ideas, politics, etc. Seems Cali, Massachusetts, and New York lead the way. That's all.
