    Hello fellas,

I'm needing some help getting this basket-case! (I actually like the description) bike of mine running. I had the battery charged at autozone yesterday and this morning when I went to start the battery, it read 12.68v on my multimeter. Except after a few cranks and leaving the engine switch in the RUN/ON position, the battery was out of juice - dropped below 12v, hence no further crank!

Meanwhile, before the battery died, I was able to determine that the fuel pump relay is bad. I jumped it and the fuel pump hummed. It stayed humming until I disconnect the jump. Is there another fuel-cut relay or is that the same as fuel pump relay? Since, I was sure the pump was working I tried to start the bike and it turned over fine, but wouldn't fire up.

I am not getting spark and here is where I need the most help right now. SO my question are:

    - what are the things I need to check for in order to get spark?
    - are the ignition coils grounded? In the pic attached, on of my ignition coils does not sit firm on the frame. Could this be a problem?

    - No spark? Bad cam sensor? Bad ignition pulse generator? Where are these little things that cause big headaches. For the life of me, I'm havign a hard time finding them this morning (Little sleep from last night).

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

Answers to your questions can be found in the factory service manual, including test procedures for the various electrical components. i believe the coils do need grounding through their mounting bolts.

You almost certainly need a new battery cuz yours fails under load.

They're tested by measuring resistance at the plug connectors, usually around about approximately 250 ohms.

......always helps to state the year of your bike......

Set the ohms knob on 2000, and got 444 ohms on cam pulse generator, and 508 ohms on ignition pulse generator

Can anyone help clarify if my resistance readings on the pulse generators are within specs?

They read pretty close to what the replacement ones read. I would like to know if they are all bad before I spend countless time trying to fix other things that arent broken.

Better yet, point me in the direction to find the info. Can't seem to see the resistance specs in Factory manual nor Haynes manual

    Thnaks a bunch

    CandyRed,

Thanks for the suggestion. I have read those posts, and would go mess with my Orange ground connector now.
However, my bike is a 5th gen and I don't seem to remember having a blue connector like that one. I think those are in 6th gen. Is that the throttle position sensor connector on your bike? I would like to check out a similar connector on my bike if possible.

    Thanks
