i put in a new (to me) clutch master and slave cylinder. i went to change gear, and the rod that goes between the gear change and the bike bent. i put an orange arrow to it in the pic below before it was bent.

    how does it come off?

where can i find a new one? i've searched all the fiches on bike bandit and i'm not seeing it.

where the part that the rod connects to and goes into the bike has a couple mm of play (in and out) is that normal?

thanks. i'd have searched, but i'm not so sure what its called

You have bleed the clutch fluid and have a normal feel to the clutch handle, right??

That rod is not strong and bends easily, but it can be straightened easily too!!
To remove you might need to detach the front clip where the rod attaches to shift shaft and release 2 locknuts and turn.

My guess is that you damaged the rod while forcing a shift while gears did not want to mesh.

Do not use excessive force on the shift pedal or risk damaging the transmission. Shifting is best done while bike is moving and engine is turning, so use your hand to turn the rear wheel when you operate the shift pedal if bike is on the stand. You know how much force it takes to shift, so never use any more because gears are not lined up and stuff will bend.

That is your shift rod. May be called other things as well. I cannot speak for your VF, but on my FZR it just threaded off. I had to loosen one/both of the adjustment nuts, then just unscrew it. Came off easy as pie. Try getting an open end wrench on one of the nuts to loosen it, and you then get a pair of pliers to unthread the rod from the rest of the shift linkage.

i got the 2 nut loose, but i didn't try to turn the bar. i'll give that a shot. is that how i'd take it off? i need to bend it back now.

i bled the clutch, it feels normal now. the bike was in N, i was trying to put it in 1st so i could make sure when i pulled in the clutch i could roll the bike. that's when it bent. if i can just bend it back that'll be great!

There is a possibility that the drum is damaged, also the left shift fork is usually cracked and is need of welding as there are no more shift forks available!!!
The proses is that you have to crack the case just like the picture to the left..

    Cheers Michael..
