I've torn down the forks on my '87 VFR700 and am preparing to put everything back together. My only concern is the bushing that has an interferance fit and must be driven down into the slider when reassembling.

Are there any good tools that can be made at home that will accomplish this task or do I need to buy the special driver tool? Thanks

often the old oil seal can be used on top of the new one to aid in protecting new seal on installation.

best tool is the proper-sized length of PVC plumbing pipe. use plenty of fork oil to lube upper bushing/seal area.

seal, etc should be driven in square, not tilted. it's all good when you have room to install circlip.

    Thanks!

I got this done today using a 1 1/2" diameter piece of PVC pipe. Worked like a charm and only cost ~$4.00.

Tomorrow I will fill with new fluid and start to remount.

did you use a short piece? or a looooong piece?

the piece I used was about 3 feet long, and I was able to just tap the far end with a mallet to get the desired results!

but a smaller piece could be used too.

I hope you used a rubber mallet if you used a short piece so as not to mar up your sliders!

About a 3 foot piece and a rubber mallet.
