Maybe I stuck my last post in the wrong forum. Anyway this was the question which I'd really appreciate any comments on.

Due to my inability to concrete a floor properly, my '98 VFR toppled ever so gently sidewards causing a scratched fairing. OK, no problem... except when I get the colour pot for the correct code R157 (Italian red) and try to match it, the red is too dark. Has anyone else had this problem? The paint maker was AFR. Is it me or is it the paint? Any help folks. What is the best paint manufacturer for these beasts? Thanks again Richie

IIRC R157 is a tri-coat color. The red needs to go on top of a lighter base coat. That's no to say that a single or two stage paint can't be made to match it, but if the paint was mixed using the R157 code it needs to be applied the way it was intended, which is on top of a specific shade of base coat.

Color-rite has a single stage paint that's supposed to match. Motorcycle Paint :: Touch Up, Aerosol & Refinish Paint - ColorRite

In addition, if your bike has spent any extended period of time outdoors, the paint is going to fade to a certain degree. "New" paint will almost always be darker than the original paint if this is the case.
