I have a 97 VFR750 that I purchased in February. It had approximately 22,000 miles on it and has obviously been taken good care of. Since that time, I have put about 1,000 trouble free miles on it. This morning, on my way to work, it quit on me and now won't start. I had ridden approximately 15 miles with no problem. Then as I slowed down to go through a small town it just quit. It sounded as if it might be running out of gas, even though it has a nearly full tank. When I hit the starter, the motor turns over fine and it will hit just a little bit but just won't quite start.

I am not too familiar with this particular model. Does anyone have any suggestions about what the problem might be?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does your bike have a fuel valve on the left side where you can switch to reserve? (I have seen pictures both ways) If so, check and make sure somebody didn't turn it off on you, and try the reserve position also. Sound like lack of fuel, need to check fuel pump next.

No, it just has a warning light that comes on when you would normally have to go to reserve. I wasn't aware that it had a fuel pump though either so I guess that would be a good place to start.

    Thanks

No reserve setting on 4th gens; instead a fuel gauge+warning light.

First step for checking fuel pump is to bypass pump relay.
