    Hey all,

I started hearing a sound recently. Sounds like it's coming from under the gas tank behind the right side fairing/radiator. Seems to happen when the thermostat opens, ~170 degrees on the coolant. I plan to take the clothes off this weekend to dig deeper, but I got a video of the sound and figured I'd see if anyone knew off the bat what it was.

NOTE: The sound is MUCH louder in the video than in person, relative to engine noise.

    YouTube - VFR800 Noise

Originally I was thinking cam tensioner, but it doesn't sound like any of the clips I've found. Seems more rhythmic and doesn't speed up much with throttle. From what I've been reading I am now thinking it may be PAIR or SAS. Is there anything in the cooling system that may be making this noise? I thought maybe water pump, but it's pretty far from where I'm hearing the noise.

Bike is an '07 with ~8500 miles.

    Thanks in advance!

    Couple questions:

How long ago did you first notice this? Was there a service done on the bike around that time? Have you added/flushed coolant?

I'll admit I doubt I'll be able to troubleshoot this effectively but that information may well help some of the motor gurus here on VFRW.

    Thinking good thoughts for you,

    Hi Revengel,

Thanks for the reply! I first noticed it a few hundred miles ago. I do all services myself and have not touched the cooling system, aside from checking levels.

To clarify in the video - the sound I am referring to is the "clack-clack" nosie that you hear about twice per second. Also I apologize about the abundance of movement. Just listen and don't watch it :)
