I am looking to replace and having real difficulty identifying the correct part numbers and hoses on Bike bandit.com. Actually if anyone knows a place to buy a complete hose kit that would be fantastic? I am currently trying to replace the ones connected to the thermostat housing. There should be 5 but they are not on the water pump page that shows the thermostat. Does anyone have a better bike part image than this?

I am in the process of replacing hoses too. All the hoses are still available except part #19504-MBG-000 (which is the straight hose from the right radiator directly to the left radiator. It shouldn't be too hard to find an alternative to OEM since it is a straight piece of hose).

    I purchased everything from Motosport.com

There are 5 hoses that hook to the thermostat for the 1998 and 1999 model years. It looks like you have a 2000 or 2001 model year with the Fast Idle Wax Unit? If so you will need water pump part #23 as noted below.

Red highlighted parts are the ones that connect to the thermostat for all model years. The blue highlighted part connects to the thermostat for 2000 & 2001 model years only.

Here is my list from when I did my 2000 VFR800Fi

Don't forget to replace the o-rings too while you are there. New thermostat is also highly recommended.

A couple of quick follow up questions , what are the red and white dots on the hoses, see attached image. I couldn't see any reference in the manual? Anyone know if ends with the Dots supposed to be attached to the thermostat housing or the other way around?

Also in the manual there is no torque spec given for tightening the thermostat housing bolts , or clamping hoses. How tight is tight enough when working on clamps or the thermostat housing?

    thanks,
    Gearoid.

I'm not an expert. In fact I just completed this job for the first time, so take this for what it is...

In regards to the colored dots, I just oriented the new hoses the same way as the ones coming off the bike (as they had dots as well). For the most part, as far as I can tell, the dots are used to line up with the hose stop points (the raised circles and squares, etc. on the hard parts). However, there are also color dots on the inside of some of the clamps too. For what reason, I don't know.

In regards to the torque specs...I just used my wrist as a torque wrench. I tightened the bolts all the way down and then just gave them a bit more to really snug them up. As far as I can tell, they are steel bolts going into aluminum, so you always want to be careful with that combo. As far as the clamps go, well that requires even more finesse. I originally tightened them using the phillips head driver to as tight as I could, but then realized that a 6mm socket was the better way to go as it allowed me to get even tighter (which meant I probably didn't have it tight enough when I just used my hand). This also made me feel like I came a little too close to stripping some of the clamps.

I asked a lot of questions about this and made some posts too on the other site.

Corkey thanks for the response and suggestion , unfortunately i already had the hoses off before i spotted the Dot markings when the new ones arrived. Still looking for guidance..Anyone got an aftermarket service manual ( chilton) that may cover this?

Check out the photos I posted in that link to the other site. That should be helpful. The two hoses you posted a photo of are pretty straight forward. Again see the photos in my post link. Just make sure you tighten the clamps facing up. I made the mistake of putting them back on as they came from the factory and had to redo it to correct that problem. You can read about it in that post.

Do you have all of the hoses off? Or just those two? My bike is still apart. I could look to see where all the dots are if needed. Mind you I rubbed the dots off those two specific hoses in the process of putting them on because it was a bear to get them on.

I want my independent mechanic to adjust the valves and replace the thermostat. He reminded me that my VFR makes him want to "punch babies."
