Here is my Interceptor that a purchased about a year ago and have been restoring and riding. It's a great little bike.
Very nice. I'm saving that pic so I have something to go by for my 84 vf 500. I just bought it and have been working on restoring it. It runs but I have a tap in one of the forward cyclinders. Also all the hydraulic fluid has leaked out of the clutch system. Not sure where it's leaking from, though.
Hello Interceptor and welcome to the group. That's a very sharp looking bike you have. You said you retored it. Do you have before and after photos? I know this will inspire reg to do a bang up restore job on his. ;-)
The old original V4's had cam oiling problems. There are kits on the market to add to help. Also there is a special tool - a honda part number to adjust the valves. It keep tension on the cam chain while performing the adjustment procedure. Just a couple of tidbits I picked up from owning a Sabre700. Best of luck
The special cam tool is worse than useless. It basically pulls the cam so that all the slop is out, and then when you adjust the valves and release the tool, you end up setting them too tight. Best to adjust them to the loose side of the spec, without the tool. Tight valves makes the oil starvation worse.
You may want to double check, but I believe Honda revised the valve clearances for all 1st gen v-4s for this very same reason. The clearances went from 0.12mm to 0.15mm for both intake and exhaust. Thought this might help anyone in need.
did you see his bike in the classifieds? He is asking $1000. I showed my wife and she said 'we can buy that one if you want to and I'll learn to ride on the other one then switch to that one when I'm better.' I thought about it, but ours is not too far from done. I am having the seat recovered soon, and I have the clutch issue and the tapping noise, then it's all cleanup work.
No I didn't. If I had the money I'd be on it. but I am broke as usual. lol I have to pay the hospital bill this week. $2k. ouch.
