Ok VFR riders. I'm new to this forum so please don't get excited if I don't follow protocol. Got my 2005 VFR new out of the crate last year. Have had some problems with it losing power without warning even with the recall harness installed. Caused me to cancel a planned trip down the Oregon coast. I'm looking forward to getting out on the motorcycle however I've still got reservations that the power loss problem has not been resolved. I figured that maybe you guys and gals would have some insights. PS I ride in the Kootenays ... does anyone ride in this area?
Hellooooooooo where the heck is Kootenays? any who, welcome. I bet there's someone here that will be able to shed some light. good to have you on board.
HOW DARE YOU POST WITHOUT FOLLOWING PROTOCOL!!!! Just messin' cap....hello and welcome! Hard to diagnose without more input. Have you used a multimeter to test voltages with bike off (12.7v +), at idle, and at 5-6k (usually 14v+)? Are they sufficient? Does this bike have a PC (Power Commander) installed? Check, for loose/disconnected hoses/fittings underneath the tank and else where. Is it possible you had a fillup with bad gas? I know everybody hates to hear this, but it has happened (a rare possibility) on here where a 6th gen needed the harness upgrade, and by the time he got it, it had damaged the r/r (regulator/rectifier). Far off chance, but something to think about and test/check for damage, and look at the voltages when you test the battery.
Do you know where Vancouver BC is? Well it is no where near there. East side of BC and I will bet the riding there is absolutely grand. Going camping there this summer. http://www.kootenaysbc.com/ Sorry. I can't help with the power problem simply cause I know more about rocket science than I do about fixing these gems. And that is not much. Welcome to the Forum.
Thanks for the welcome ... all! The Kootenays is about 8 hours, driving the speed limit, east of Vancouver, Canada. Yes ... there is incredible riding here. The guys at one of the local dealerships took the MISTRESS (my girlfriend named my VFR the "Mistress") apart and checked all the wiring. Apparently everything checked out except for a ground wire that wasn't totally plugged in. They figure the mistress is good to go ... then one fellow said, "checked everything, but can't guarantee 100% that we found the problem."
Check Kill Switches, Thumb and center stand, kick stand. Sometimes G forces causes intermitting power loss. Found my center stand by passing it.
