Welcome Pursey Wales! Glad to have another VFR member!

Sounds like you could have the dreaded bad R/R (Regulator/Rectifier). Have you tested your battery to see what kind of a charge it has? Have you cleaned your battery post connections? Have you inspected your R/R and the connectors going into it to see if they are burned/melted? If your battery was low/dead, trickle charge it and see if the bike lights up. If it does, you will need to test the battery as the bike is running at idle, and up to 5-6k to see if the voltage is increasing, or dropping/staying the same, this will help you figure out if the R/R is bad. We have a bunch of threads on R/R repair/testing if you do a search.

Welcome to VFRWorld, pursey wales uk. I agree with stuka, sounds like your r/r took a powder. There are many threads about r/r failures so they should be easy to find. If you need a bit more info, feel free to ask.

    Welcome aboard.
Just a thought...How old is your bike?
It may be a dirty connection at the kill switch on the right bar instrument cluster.
A quick clean with small amount of cleaning oil can make it like new again.
This cluster gets dirty on older bikes.
