    Hello everyone,
I am looking to buy a 2003-2005 interceptor. I just sold my Kaw Zr7.

    Question
How much damage is needed to total a 2003, I am looking at one with a rebuilt titel, pictures look great, it's about 3 hours away from me so if I make the trip I want to feel pretty good about buying it. Seller states that it was just plastic damage, that is alot of plastic damage.

    Any information would be helpful!

    Thanks

I think the bottom line is that you may never actually know what happened. Unless you can get a repair receipt or info from the insurance company...

If your getting a rebuilt due to a money crunch thing thats cool, otherwise I personally would stay away. After all you may fall in love with the VFR like everyone does and will want to keep it forever.

Depends on the value of an 03 wherever the insurance company was looking. I have heard anywhere from 50% of the value and up could "right off" a bike. If all the plastics and tank were toast the repair could quite be costly. If all the plastics were done in, then you can bet that the mirror(s), lever(s), bar(s) and so on may have been replaced as well.

If it was me, I would want to know what happened, what was fixed and what was checked... mounts, frame and so on.

Welcome to the forum by the way.

Welcome to the forum. A tiny dent in the frame can cause an insurance company to total out a bike. That is how my brother got his '00 R1...prior owner went down, and damaged plastic on one side, and a "tiny" dent in the frame. Liability for the insurance company to worry about.

Well I am going to Look at her tomorrow, and if I don't see anything wrong with it I am going to get it.
If it drives straight and true and runs good she will be mine.

It's a 2003 with abs, its been painted a dark grey metalic looks really good in pictures. The bike only has 2000 miles on it.

If everything works out I will post more tomorrow after I get her home.

This may sound funny but take a magnifying glass and inspect that frame real close, especially at the welds. And if the frame has been painted, this would sure raise flags for me. Paint will cover hairline cracks really well.
