Hello everyone, I'm new to the site. I just bought a 1990 VFR and now I'm in the process of fixing it up. The bike was in an accident back in 92, and has been stored in a basement for the next 13 years. Back in 97, the basement flooded and the water line/mud line covered the bike about 90%. When I picked it up, there is NO rust on the bike (the chain had some rust) but everything else is fine.
I got the bike home, washed it off, added the parts that the previous owner bought for it, and now I just need to get a couple fairings for it and get it running. You might ask if the motor was ceased up? Nope, I got it to turn with a breaker bar and there is no grinding or noise when the pistons go up and down. A little bit of water came out when I emptied the oil out, but not much. The carbs are totally covered in mud but I'm sure they can get cleaned.
Do you guys think it will take a lot to get back on the road? I want to give this bike a second chance at life because it has only been on the road for 1.5 years total. The bike has 6,647 original miles on it. Here are some pictures of the bike. Let me know what you think.

I'll add more pictures when I get them off my camera. These pictures are of the bike in the basement where I stayed for so many years. There is still air in the tires and they are not even dry rotted.

I dont know if it holds true for motorcycle engines or not, But when a car
engine had water in the oil from being under water, we drained all oils , filled the engine
with a oil based kerosine and let it set overnite..
Then empty out engine , replace all filters with cheap ones , and use a 30w
motor oil , run 20 minutes , drain all oils again,.. when replacing oils ,filters again use top quality... Worked on cars..

Or you can just change oil filter, oils and see what happens..Check the oil sump bypass valve for debris, oil pump..
