Hi everyone, I just bought a red 2003 VFR with ABS last weekend and I've already picked up a few pointers from this site. I've been out of the motorcycle world since about 1993 and decided it was finally time to get back in. My previous ride was a 1986 VFR700 which I bought new in 1990. Loved that bike but I was in Texas at the time and it got to be not so enjoyable riding in the heat with a heavy leather jacket and full face helmet, not to mention feeling mortal once the kids came along. Anyway, as I said, I finally decided it was time to get another one and I immediately gravitated to the newer VFRs. I did consider other makes and models but I always came back, the VFR is just such a perfect all-around bike. My 2003 already had Heli bars installed, and I've added a set of factory hard bags I found on Craigslist. Future plans are an Audiovox cruise, Sargent seat, and some kind of pipes to get a little more sound out of it. I love the sound of the Staintunes but I'm having a really hard time getting past the price so for now I'll probably try to locate a cheap set of stock cans and gut them. Anybody got a set sitting around they'd be willing to let go cheap? For now I'm loving the feeling of riding again, and the weather here is generally pretty mild so I should get lots of seat time. Hopefully I can join up with some group rides eventually, for now I'm working on getting the feel back for the speed and cornering ability of a good motorcycle so I'm a little slow. Okay, more than a little. Anyway, it's all good and hopefully I'll see some fellow VFR riders on the road.
Hey gdl, good to have you. You came to the right place. Some of, if not the only fun I have online! All kinds of good information. Judging from the very recent influx of Colo. riders that have registered on this site, I would say we are going to start seeing some more viffers here in Denver, very shortly! I think I've said this ten times in the last day or so, "when ever you want to get togather for a ride let us know" Check out the local riders section and hit the mountain thread, from there just post something on "Colorado riders out there." Or check the same thread to find out if anyone else is planning something. Congrats, you have chosen wisely!!!
Thanks for the welcome havcar. I do want to eventually ride with others and I will watch the sections you suggested. At the moment I'm still working on getting the feel for riding again, I'm pretty tentative in the corners so I'd definitely slow everyone down if I tried to join up right now.
Welcome back to VFR and welcome to VFRworld. You will enjoy the site and benifit from some of the members wisdom. Don't listen to me though.
Welcome to the site. I too was away from riding for over ten years, and bought an 07 last September. It's my second Interceptor (86 VF500), and I couldn't be happier. You'll find lots of good folks here.
No worries brother, definately take your time and ride safe those first couple thousand miles. I wouldn't worry to much about slowing anyone down. There are a ton of routes that make for good rides that aren't too technical!
Welcome, and congratulations! Just remember, ride your own bike and let everyone else ride theirs. Do your own pace, and it will come back to you soon enough. I'll bet the riding out there in the Rockies is absolutely spectacular! I'm contemplating a New Mexico/Arizona/Utah/Colorado ride this year, most likely in the late Aug/early Sept. timeframe.
Wow! We are getting qutie a few new front range riders here. We really need to get a ride planned soon. Welcome gdl.
Yeah, I agree. I've seen some of your posts, it looks like you don't mind hitting the weekend long rides. I'm always up for an extended ride if you want to do one sometime, and the day longers are great too, so anytime!! With as many front rangers that have joioned in the last week, I would think we could put togather a good group. Did you see the 50 or so guys that are coming to Dillion from the north west and Canada in Aug. I think they're organizing it on that other site, but it looks to be a huge crowd of viffers, should be fun!
Welcome, the weather the last week has been great for riding here. Windy today, but hey it is February. I'm ready to ride whenever the rest of you front range guys are!
Thought I'd chime in and pass along my welcome. I got my '07 RWB VFR in late October, and this turned out to be a great winter to have a bike. That said, I am looking forward to the canyons and mountains roads to clear up in the next few months for some true Colorado riding. It would be great to get the CO VFR's together and hit the road.
