    Hi everyone,

I am from Toronto, Canada, you know that country in the north, where it suddenly starts snowing as soon as you cross the border ;)? First time rider, with nil experience of riding a heavy bike. Just got a used '83 VFR last night and while trying to make a U-turn on my street, dropped it on the side. Guess I have a lot to learn.

I work in a bank and other than riding a bike, I drive a 1989 Nissan Skylien GTR. I am new to the bike world and will be trying my best to learn as much as I can about this amazing machine as time goes along.

One thing I did notice about the bike is that the engine is very noisy. The noise seems like a bit of a rattle/chatter, which sometimes goes away after warming up and at others, stays there. Is that normal? Am I hearing a piston slap or does the engine need shim adjustment or something? Not sure if this is normal. There is no loss of power but still Im concerned about the noise. I will post this up in the technical section as well.

Anyway, that was a short 'WHO AM I' for this section.

    Take care all,

    Judas

Welcome to the site. Do a search for cam chain tensioner failure and read up. It may be nothing, but it's something you will want to be aware of. And we have lots of members from Canadia...

Howdy chap! Welcome to the :loco:

I believe that 1983 was not a stellar year for V-4 reliability. PM Jamie Daugherty, or Squirrelman, as they seem to be the guru's on the older viffers.
