New to this site and I am currently trying to revive a 94 VFR750 with 23K on it that sat for way too long. The information on this site has been invaluable and I want to thank ALL contributors to the insane amount of information here.
Here is my problem...Bike is bro-in-laws and I rescued it from his garage during current seperation problems. SO......I havent bought the bike yet, but I have had a chance to get to know it WELL the past week. Has some minor broken fairings. Throttle was stuck. Got it working. Got battery, would fire but not run. Gas was VERY bad varnish like substance. Got rid off all that. Cleaned the tank (thanks for tips). Put in 4 new plugs (thanks for tips on the front two!!), blew out the air cleaner (needs a new one), and fresh gas. Last night I got it fired off and best I could get on idle was idle with the choke on. I did get it up to operating temperature. I read that it looks like pilot jet issues. I did spray a lot of carb cleaner in them when I had it apart BTW. I am a decent wrench, but taking off all four carbs and rebuilding them may be above my head for now. This is my first VFR and I have always wanted one.
My other issue is I found one very near me. A 2004 VFR 800 with right at 5000 miles on it for a good price. Do I ditch the classic and finance some of the newer one or pay cash for the older one and up my wrenching game?
Wouldn't have dug as deep as I did on this bike if I hadn't found this site and read all the useful threads here.
Either way, I will have a VFR on the road soon and will be hanging around this site!
I fully expect a new guy bashing so have at it!
Thanks again for all the useful info here!

I just got a 2002 last fall and am loving it. It's a tough call to make. Buy the newer model and start riding. Everything is available for it, it truly is an awesome bike. I think that if I had had the chance to refurbish an older gen I probably would do it, as long as I were able to be riding something else while that was happening.

    :welcome:

IMO....stick with the old 4th gen and get her back road worthy, they were great bikes. May get lucky just with riding a few tanks of gas and injector cleaner thru her before tearing the carbs down....

I'd buy the 94. When you cleaned the carbs, did you remove all the jets and emulsion tubes and clean them or just use carb. cleaner? I'd remove the carbs again and clean them all again. Just don't separate the carbs from the plate.

Thanks for the input. I think I am going to hang onto the 94 and get her back on the road. I will try the injector cleaner and a couple tanks of fuel before I go any deeper. Havent actually removed the carbs YET. Just carb cleaner so far. Got a new air cleaner on the way too. Looks like busted knuckles and smelling like gas for awhile  but I do like the thought of no monthly payments! I will post some pics of the the old gal when I get her put back together. I appreciate the advice and Im sure you will see me asking stupid questions in the Mechanics Garage soon...... I am a bit surprised for the support on the 94. THANKS a lot
