Is there a commonly accepted way to wire in a power connector for heated gear? I plan on making a fused direct connection to the battery. I'm only running a pair of Gerbing gloves and jacket liner. So, I'm not looking at a huge power draw.

Some people install a fused power distribution panel with a relay, but they are typically adding other accessories. I've always used direct-to-battery, and mark the connector (+ connection) so it can also be used for a Battery Tender (with a small adapter harness). The only thing I can suggest is to use some split loom for additional wire protection, and tie wrap the harness in at least two places so it won't pull on the battery connections.

I've only used a vest, so the current draw is only about 4A with a 10A fuse (55W). Do your liner and gloves connect together as a system?

Jacket liner, pants and insoles all direct to the battery through one connection. Been that way for a few years. Just stopped working yesterday matter of fact. Nothing to do with the connections, The wire on the garment looks like it may have gotten crimped in the locker at work. Could smell something burning on the way home but couldn't figure out where it was. Low an behold, that wire break wasn't really that far from my crotch Fack. Now I Gerbings is out of stock for a new controler. Major bad timing on that one.

On my other bike I have a BMW style connector installed in the fairing. I also use that same connector to attach my Battery Tender. I don't know if I want to punch a hole in the fairing to install a power outlet on the VFR. And to answer your question, the Gerbing vest and gloves can be used independently. If I had the option I would give up the vest before the gloves! Once my hands get cold I'm done.

I'm curious how folks route the wire for their heated gear. Either between the seat and tank or something more permanent?
