Heading for TN & VA in a couple of weeks

Wife and I are making our annual early Spring trip south from NH. We usually spend a few weeks around Deals Gap and western NC but this year are heading to central TN (near Carthage) and to Wilkesboro VA. We're spending at least a week in both places and are looking for day rides of note. Excluding the Blue Ridge (done that a lot and will do it again) anyone have suggestions?

 

Awesome. I have never ridden a motorcycle that far before. One of these, I will make a road trip..

 

Well, to be honest, we have a toy hauler and will be using that to get down south. We leave in two weeks and it's a bit early to be making a motorcycle trip commitment from northern NH. Likely, though, one of us will be riding back in early May while the other drives the trailer.

 

Carthage is not that far from me. Every Sat/Sun there is a group ride out in that area. If you are in town during the weekend you should look up the group. I will warn you though, some of these guys are crazy fast riders. Just let them go and they will wait for you at the next stop.

If you meant Wilkesboro, NC, there's definitely lots good play around there.
Start with a run up to Mouth of Wilson on either 13 or 16 (16 is fine, I haven't done 13, but it looks good) and then take 58 W to Damascus.
Either 133 or 91 south from there and 421 back and you'll be ready for new tires or another lap.

 

You're right, I meant NC not VA. Anyway, thanks for the information. We're heading out tomorrow and are really looking forward to a few weeks of riding on some of the best roads east of the Mississippi.
