Just out of curiosity, is Harbor Freight ever NOT having a sale?? Just wondering since I was deleting old emails from my Inbox and I ended up deleting what seems like hundreds of emails from them over the past year. Seems kinda pointless to me from a marketing standpoint since people tend to stop paying attention to "sales" emails when they are the norm and you receive them so often, plus you can always find a 20% off coupon out there somewhere when you need to buy a specific item. Do you think Harbor Freight is overdoing it with these emails or do you actually read every sales email they send? Well I gotta run for now, don't want to miss the big Harbor Freight "Second Monday of the Month Sale"

I quickly glance through those emails, just to make sure that I am not missing anything. I think the psychology behind it is more emails the better because people tend to buy more when they see a sale sign even though they don't need them..

White335 is right on. Its just marketing. It has nothing to do with sales. What do think a commercial is? Who hasn't seen Flo from Progressive at this point. But they play them over and over as a "reminder".

E-mail blasts are no different, albeit much cheaper.

Yeah, they are awesome. Just look at these deals:

    Chrome Sockets

    Screwdrivers

    Ratchets

As for receiving emails, they have these handy little tools, usually called "unsubscribe" or "change email preferences" Takes as much time to permanently fix as it does to start a thread about them.

I don't get them but I do come from a family where dad was in the marketing business as a sales rep. He was a Brewery Rep. Their motto was "Get the label on the table". When he bought rounds, it was NEVER hard liquor and NEVER daught beer. He always bought bottled beer so there was advertising right there in front of you. So long as your product is decent, then next best tool for increasing sales is advertising and familiarity.

I wished we had harbor freight here in BC. I have to go down to Bellingham Washington I think. so haven't bought from them....yet.

One trick to keep advertisers out of the "inbox" is to call in your order instead of filling out Eforms with your email addy. Not a perfect system but I have never had Harbor Freight in my Email.. My PO box is a whole different story. Paper flyers have many uses if one is frugal.

The term used in the ad world is "impingement". It works. Next time you think of a cola drink what pops in?

No, not potato chips or that a Coke at one time was five cents in real American money!

So how good are those Gnomes from Harbor Freight? I like the ones that have LEDs in the eye sockets and are solar powered. Nice machetes too IMO.
