So I get a text from Scubalong this past week saying "Let's go to the track on Sunday, my brother's gonna be riding with his Super Moto crew and have a BBQ". Figuring it would be a fun thing to do I said, "Sure, let's go.". So this morning Scubalong picks me up around 9AM and we head over to Adams Motorsports Park in Riverside, CA. We head over to the pit area and find Scubalong's brother and get acquainted with everyone. At this time there's a go cart on the track and one other solo rider on a mini just doing laps until Long's brother's group gets their turn. In between their turn and the mini moto guy, there was one other dude just shredding the track!

Although a few knew who this rider was, it wasn't until a a few laps and a few subtle hints that we found out that it was none other than Max Biaggi! Yes, the Max Biaggi, ex-MotoGP champion. Who knew that Riverside would find an ex-MotoGP champion riding one of their local race tracks. Those of you who attended this years R3 might remember Kevin, the other BMW adventure rider that rode up with Long and I, he was there too. We also come to find a friend of VFRWorld member Tori. who was down from Santa Maria offering his culinary skills and making some awesome Tri-tip for everyone. For the record, he drove here, provided all of the food and would not take one cent from anyone! Very cool guy and a great BBQ chef, the BBQ was worth the trip alone!

All in all it was a good time and fun watching these Super Moto guys rip around the track and really fun watching Max take 43 second laps! Other than a little heat (Temps in the mid 80's), we did get a slight breeze now and then keeping us from sweating to death plus there was beer and water, again at no cost to those who showed up!

R3 Party crasher and apparently motorcycle crasher, Kevin. He was nursing a beer along with his left shoulder.

The drones were also there gathering data.

Any BBQ that starts with a half pound of butter is bound to taste good!

The Tri-tip as it was just starting to cook. This pic does not do the food justice, most of us went back for 3rds and 4ths!

Mr. Biaggi getting ready to hit the track.

Max hitting the same corner as Long's brother but at a slightly higher pace!

Not sure what the discussion was but Max was pointing something out to his mechanic on his mobile phone.

This was typical of what we saw of the rider before we knew his (Maxs') identity.

Oh, yeah, lost of passing too!

The Schuberth is my commuter/touring helmet and not the one I wear when "carving it up", the GT-Air is not a SNELL approved helmet but the RF-1100 is. I wasn't sure if this track required helmets that are SNELL approved. Also since I don't really wear the RF-1100 anymore, it actually works out better. I can retire it without feeling like the helmet is not of any use, at least with Max's signature it's a show piece. I actually stopped wearing the RF-1100 after it fell off the seat of my bike and got a pretty decent chip taken out of the paint. That gave me the excuse to go out and buy the GT-Air. Although I might be looking at getting the RF-1200 for track day use, as like its predecessor, it is also SNELL approved.
