Just backed into my fourth VFR totally by coincidence! I went to my local BMW shop to give the R1200RT a final look-over before ordering and right beside the model I liked was an apparently new VFR in silver. Had the matching Givi sidecases, Throttle Meister, new-in-bag heavy duty Honda cover, aftermarket larger touring windscreen (as well as the OEM screen) and all manuals, and receipts for the 600 mile service. It was of course an '08 and had 748 miles on the clock. They wanted $7999 and I got it for $7500 out the door with tag and 8 months left on the warranty.
As I said, it's my 4th V4 VF and I'm pretty pleased with myself. A regular customer was on the way home from the left coast and something happened to his BMW in Toledo, so he just picked up the VFR to ride home and traded it in as soon as he got back to Maryland. I swear I couldn't tell it wasn't showroom new - immaculate.
So, I'm new here and while not new to VFRs, relearning all the wonderful ways of the machine. Biggest difference I could feel immediately was a more responsive fork and shock and the much better lower RPM engagement of VTEC. Looking forward to learning from you guys, whom I can tell are a very experienced group of riders and wrenches.
First question: I'm an admitted Akrapovic junkie with a bad habit. While there is no dedicated cannister made specifically for the under-the-tail VFR, there have to be some cans that with some mounting mods will fit in the OEM space as designed. Can I ask you guys to kick that around and see if anyone has tried an Akra made for a different machine? The approx oval diameters are: 3.75 x 4.85 and length is negotiable. Two exhausts would maintain the beautiful stock design and with the right external diameter the side-cases would still fit for the rare occasion I'd need them. The C-14 takes care of long-distance trips with luggage. But I sure wasn't going to turn down the Givis on the bike! But they're off already, along with that heavy mounting bracket and pillion pegs and mounting plates.
I've got a set of Q2s ordered already, took off the rear Buick-like appendage, relocated the plate (well-hidden, but [barely] legal. Once the 'new' wears off, I'll start sharpening her up a bit. Other than the anchor-weight wheels, where did all the extra weight come from? Anyone working on a diet and if so, where's a good place to start?
Thanks much and hope to be on here regularly once I wire-brush the rust off my memory and experiences with this most wonderful of Hondas.
    Semper fi!
