My hands go numb sometimes after only 20 minutes of riding. What grips do you experienced tourers recommend? Or do I need to raise the bars a little? The grips are currenlty stock. I want something that still looks OK, handles well and isn't those big foamy things.

My favorite grips are a BMW design. They are a series of concentric rubber rings, greater diameter at the outer edge, smaller towards the forks. Smaller diameter than stock towards the forks, larger diameter than stock towards the outside. BMW #32721458395 and ---96.

I'm not thinking that grips will make THAT much of a difference. You should try heavier bar ends. If you still have a problem, I highly suggest seeing a doc, you might have a bigger problem that you're not aware of.

I hadn't thought about asking the doc. Good idea. I was thinking I need to do more forearm and wrist work during my workouts. I need to get the throttlemeister bar ends too. This is going to be a problem if I want to go on a really long ride!

HVMP ends are pretty much the same as Throttlemeister just without the CC.

Definitely see a Doc before you start spending $$$. I know too many guys from my years as a mechanic that had issues with their arms and back and never thought twice about it until they retired and now have to deal with pain on a daily basis. Working out more will not cause any problems unless you have an underlying injury that you're not aware of.

I recently bought a cramp buster. It seems to help a little, but it is a little annoying in city driving. I may reserve it for long hauls.

......ive been having the same "numbness"vibrational problem as well...i recently downsized from a "wing" to the 98 VFR...i didnt have the numbness affliction with the "wing"...but it did occur with a FJ1100 that i used to have at certain RPM`s....my son had some gel-lined mountain bike gloved that i tried the other night on a short run, and it helped somewhat....i think there are other gloves that i will be investigating one of these days...also the gel grips...

Two weeks ago when I bought my VFR, I had to ride it about 850 miles to get it home. And my right hand seemed like it was stuck in the C position for about 2 day's after the ride with absolutely no power. In hindsight I think I would have bought the throttlemeisterttle for such a trip. But 20 minutes does seem to quick for the problem to arise.

I have been experimenting with different riding positions everytime that I ride, which is almost everyday. I have found that the best thing to keep weight off my wrists and hands are to get up close to the gas tank and use my core strength to basically just sit-up keeping my back straight and arms light. I still have to shake out my right hand while coasting more than my left. I am still new to the sport riding, so I'm sure I'll figure something out. I will be trying some of those gel grips soon though.
