Greetings from Philadelphia. I just picked up a new to me 2003 VFR800 ABS model with 9k miles - and so far, so good. I have a tank of gas thru her and she has been a lot of fun, though we are still just getting acquainted.

I am a returning rider. I put a lot of miles in on boxers in the past, and sold my last airhead boxer around 2002. When I was riding back then, the VFR was winning "bike of the year" seemingly every year, and I always secretly coveted one. The technology, the modern chassis, brakes and that v4 mill. With the boxers, I was basically riding around on 70's technology - so the vfr, to me, looked pretty exotic - and pricey - and I never had the opportunity to even ride one.

I was without a motorcycle until last fall, when I picked up a used SV650. That bike was a lot of fun, but I wanted something better suited to longer days - the highway - and the addition of hard bags. I looked at a number of 5th gens, but ended up with the '03 mostly because of the ABS - and the silver color. (Though I really am a fan of the 5th gen yellows)

So far so good. I am very pleased with the change from the SV. The engine is smooth and strong. The suspension makes the bike feel secure and planted. It is heavier, but that seems to translate to a much more stable ride. At speed, I am happy with the turn in and it feels fairly nimble. Not as nimble as a 420 lb sv - but still, pretty good. Most importantly, on the highway, I am not getting blown around. This thing feels much more secure - and the level of wind protection is just about perfect. Coming from a background riding airhead boxers - where my last one put out a whopping 60 hp, (1000cc) - and over 500 lbs. This is a very pleasant change.

Perhaps I will see you on the road.
    Rick

    Welcome Rick.
Enjoy the new ride. Make sure the wiring recall has been done on your bike and keep an eye on the charging system.

    Happy Motoring--
    Another Rick

Yeah, the recall was done - and I will be watching the charging system. Without an onboard voltmeter on the dash - could someone tell me the best way to do this? I am not a great mechanic - and electricity is like witchcraft to me.
