    Hi Folks,

Can you believe I've owned my VFR for 2 years and I just discovered this site?! Me neither. I've been lurking for a bit and gathering info as needed, but my bike just hasn't needed much work. That said, this is a great resource, and I'm glad to see that folks are keeping these unique machines alive.

I'm the proud owner of a 1987 VFR700F2, now with 29,000 miles on it. It's pretty much everything I need for carving up the great Colorado roads around Aspen (yep, somebody's gotta live here) and touring around the Rockies.

    Here are some pics:

And with that, I have a question. My fork seals need replacement, and I'm wondering about the best way to support the bike while removing the front end. Can it rest on a jack under the headers? Should I use an adapter to put weight on the engine/oil pan? Should I suspend it from the triple clamp?

Thanks in advance for your help, and enjoy your rides!

    Best,

any of those three options will work just fine.

Welcome to the forum and hopefully we can cross paths some time. I'm over on the front range with all the cops. Ft. Collins area.

I'll tell ya where we'll go. Someplace warm. A place where the beer flows like wine. Where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano. I'm talkin' bout a little place called Aspen

Welcome aboard LOL!! To lift the front without a centerstand I would use heavy duty ratchet straps suspended from garage beam or large tree branch and secure it to the bike around the triple clamp. While you ratchet the bike up have a buddy use a jack under the headers with a piece of wood between the pipes and the jack to distribute the weight.

For my bike that did not have a centerstand yet I used a rear swingarm stand and a jack on the oil pan. You have to be very careful because this setup creates an unstable tripod if you bump the bike good. I never knocked my bike over when I had this setup though.

Welcome to the forum. Stick around. There are many here who can provide valuable advice. Two have already piped up. BTW. I am "NOT" one of them. Follow too much of my advise and you will become poor.
