Got more than I bargined for from my last 3 day Alpine ride

Summer or near Summer is usually a good time to sample our tight winding Snowy mountains Alpine roads in fact was down there just 2 weeks ago with the OzVFR club and had a great time covering the usual 1200 miles over the 3 days.

This weekend just gone I went down with a few sports bike mates knowing the weather was a bit iffy but after a great days ride down the coastal back roads on the Friday we thought lady luck was with us. With a beautifully sunny Saturday morning greeting us we decided to throw caution to wind and ride up the wonderful Alpine roads because after all thats what were there for.

After a blazing run across the mountain foothills we wound our way with gusto up mountain passes only to pull over to a snow chain fitting bay to assess the dark clouds assembling in front of us...With a " I don't like the look of them " it started to snow, soft and light at first with the novelty of the situation was captivating our interest and eary stillness which quickly changed as small flurrys hit then the snow closed in rapidly.

With poor visibility from fog and a visor that needed quicky hardening ice wiped off ever few hundred feet we picked our way slowly back down to the foothills where the snow and buffeting winds followed hot on our heels back to the town we were staying, drinking beer and watching football in a warm Pub seemed a nice way to spend the rest of the day.

Have taken a few photo's but put the camera away early when it and my hands started to get too wet and cold, the last one off my taken by a mate was only a couple minutes after the previous ones taken by my camera.

 

Good stuff! I actually enjoy a ride gone "bad" every now and then. Makes for great stories and memories. This reminds me of our trip to Deal's Gap this past April. 22 degrees at the top of the Cherohala Skyway with snow on the trees and ice in the shadows on the road. I'll never forget that.

Very true, while it was a nervous low visibility ride threading down the mountain range and thin lumps of ice kept sliding off my slick Plexus coated fairing wacking me, it was a remarkable experience that we all agreed very much worthwhile chatting away at the coffee shop regroup. :tea:

The R6 man had the only complaints with his motor spluttering away annoyingly until its Ram inlet de-iced and the next days 5 hour ride home to Sydney in driving rain and at times gale force cross winds a bit average.

I'm happy to report my freshly tuned VFR behaved faultlessly the whole trip feeling nothing but competent, comfortable and totally secure with my confidence in the Pilot Road 2's unshaken and no moments in the mountains snow or trip homes driving rain. :thumbsup:

 

Ahh yes the post ride conversations were great I'm sure. Probably because you realized you're still alive :biggrin: Actually doing things like that is what makes you feel alive.

I'm jealous of the color options available outside of the US. That RWB 'Blade is beautiful and white RC51's? Nice...but my favorite is the gray and red 5th gen! :cheersaf:

 

And there I was jealous you guys get the VFR in Black...:nod:

When looking for my 5th Gen in '05 was after the candy tahitian blue scheme but when stumbled onto a freshly traded immaculate with 1200miles 50th anniversary it was just too good a VFR to pass over. :smile:
