I bought my bike toward the end of last season and when I got it, it was about ready to need a new front tire, chain, and rear sprocket. A friend offered to put it on for me and show me the in's and out's of how to do all this myself... All went well with the new chain and sprocket and actually found that a previous owner had upped the sprocket size and then put a chain on the was way to big. With that part fixed the distenct clacking sound I was hearing went away. We decided to drive it to my work today (80 miles away) in order to put the new tire on, I don't have an air compressor. All goes pretty well until we go to put the wheel/tire back on the bike and my friend happens to notice that the bearings on one side are worn out and pretty loose. I can't believe we were able to find a set WAY THE HELL OUT in the corner of middle and nowhere. Long story short: Got it all back together and I can't believe the difference. It's like driving a guided missel now, and it carves thru the twisties better than I could have ever imagined...
I'm real glad he check that bearing. I'm not sure what happens when one of those comes apart but I bet it ain't good and probablly involves asphault.
