So I just bought a 91 vfr750 for $1500. Fixing some things like fork seals, tires, sticky throttle and other little things. But I do have some questions.
First, what stuff if any is interchangeable between the 3rd and 4th generations? Like mirrors, exhaust, hand grips, plastics ect. I need a chain guard too because I am missing mine, where can I get one or if someone has an extra one I'll buy it :). I also need some of those funky half turn fairing bolts since I can't find them anywhere. I don't mean to turn this into a list of things I need lol. I just want to get bike running and looking good before the nice weather gets here. Also is there anything I need to watch for with the vfr750? Like weak tranny in certain gear or anything like that? I've read that these are some pretty tough bikes and that was a strong buying point for me, did the Vfr come with cruise control? Because it looks like my bar end is some kind of cruise control.

Tons of aftermarket mirrors online. The stock mirrors likely fit a bunch of VFRs. Consider that one of the costs in making a bike is amortization of tooling. Grips? Tons of those too. Your "cruise control" might be a Throttlemeister and your throttle may not be sticking at all. There are several sources for entire fairing fastener kits. About fifty bucks a pop. Same deal IMO chain guards. If is ain't busted, why fix it. Aftermarket market too..

Freebies downloads of manuals on both bikes will help searching for bitsas that fitsas. Online you can find various parts and assemblies broken down into components and shown in drawings. One good source IMO is Bike Bandits.. There are others.

Plastics is a whole nother can of worms. Ebay-Craigslist-Buy and sell here and other VFR BBs. Unless the fairing parts are missing big chunks, they can be fixed. Not much fun but doable.

The bar ends may be throttlemeister ? Throttlemeister - Home
How many miles are on the bike? The regulator / rectifiers have been known to go bad on these bikes due to heat, other than that there aren't many flaws that I'm aware of. I love my 1990.
Here is a link for all of the goodies you may need. I've been happy with cheapcycleparts.com, seems to take a while to arrive no matter who you order from, don't waste your money on upgraded shipping.

Ok thanks. And about the chain guard, I'm missing mine and the brake line is being held up with a zip tie from the PO. One more question. Can I just run some seafoam or any other carb cleaning substance with the gas or no?

*EDIT* there are 43,000 miles on the bike. And those throttlemeister bar ends are the same ones that I have.

If it were me, I'd run seafoam to clean it up, if any problems are noticed, I'd do a full carb cleaning and sync. You may consider replacing the Regulator / Rectifier as a preventative measure. I'd change all of the fluids too, just for peace of mind.

Just remembered another ? Is the rear tire nut (single nut on left swingarm side of bike) supost move a little bit? It doesn't move much just turned back and forth slightly. When I test rode it there wasn't a shake or anything at all that I felt.

Ya I was going to change fluids next pay check. It doesn't seem to bog or anything I just wanna use some sort of carb cleaner to be sure.
