I was wondering if anyone has tried installing the Givi wingrack on a VFR that has had a high-mount exhaust upgrade. I have a Micron pipe, and bought a wingrack that I can't seem to get on there. The guy that I bought it from adapted the exhaust side of it for a Two Brothers high-mount, and I assumed it would fit, but I am having some troubles. Has anyone tried to put a wingrack on a 2001 with a high-mount? Any suggestions would help.

    Thanks,

    Mel

    Givi Rack Again

Well, I guess nobody has tried to put a Givi wingrack on a VFR with a high-mount exhaust. How about a more general question:

Has anyone put any brand of luggage rack on a 1998-01 VFR with a high-mount exhaust?

I have three Givi cases and would like to use them, but if anyone has successfully installed hard bags on a bike with a high-mount exhaust I would be interested to hear about it.

    Thanks,

    Mel

I was actually wondering the same thing. I also have a Micron high mount and am planning to add a rack and have looked at the Givi.

I haven't looked into it in much detail but let me know what you find.

    Givi Wingrack

I contacted Givi directly. I'll let you know what they have to say. I think we might be able to use their tubular mounting system instead of the wingrack. I sure don't want to take my Micron off everytime I want to tour!

I have installed the ventura rack system on my 2000 vfr and it connects to the handles only with it's own set of longer screws for the rack into the frame connection i definitely think you would be alright with the high mount. any way u can check it out at ventura rack website. i also was able to do a little fabrication to the plastic on my cowl and still use it.let me warn you though if you install the ventura rack you will not be able to live without it.

I have purchased the Givi top rack and Givi tubular side racks. They are coming in this Friday, and I am going to put them on over the weekend. I think that they will fit, but if not, I bought them from Twistedthrottle.com, and they have a good return policy. I'll let you know how it fits with my Micron high-mount.

So, it was pretty easy to install the Givi top rack. I needed to do a little bit of adjusting because the top rack has a supporting piece that attaches to the passenger peg attachment (which is modified when you put on the Micron support). The side racks attach directly to the top rack. If you put them on without any adjustments, the right side rack will rub against the muffler, so I used one inch spacers to extend the rack beyond the muffler and bought longer bolts. You need two spacers, one for where the side rack attaches to the top rack, and one for a support piece that connects the left and right side rack. I got both the spacers and bolts through McMaster Carr, and can give you the part numbers if you want them. So, all in all, the racks fit onto the bike with small adjustments, but isn't that always the case with aftermarket parts?

Back in 1999 I had this same question. However I went with the TwoBrothers high mount carbon-fiber oval pipe. I could find no other pipe that tucked in as well and it had to be oval for more room for the hard bag mounts. The mount I went with was the Givi tubular rack as it was less noticable than the Wingrack but I imagine the closeness to the pipe would be about the same. The setup worked perfectly with the tubular rack and the high mount oval pipe from TwoBros. The bags I used were the E21's and the E360's. Although I now have a 2002 VFR I use the same hard bags but purchased a new set of tubular racks for the new bike.

I have givi rack on my 1999 (same of 2001) The rack should fit if the pipe is not to big in diameter, the rack should fit over the the exhaust

So it sounds like you actually need BOTH racks (top and side)? You can't just mount the side racks by themselves? I know Givi says this but on twistedthrottle.com they show a yellow VFR with just side bags. I would like to be able to just mount the side bags. I thought I had seen a thread on here where a guy had done some custom mounts and fit them to Givi bags. May have to look for that thread. Thx for the explanation for the install.

So, it is true that you cannot mount those tubular side racks without the Givi top rack on there, too. I looked around and couldn't find something to just mount the side racks. I have three bags, though, so in the end I wanted mounting for top and sides.

The Givi Wingrack IIs are the foundation of the amazingly versatile Monokey system. Givi designed the N151 rack to carry two sidecases without a topcase, dramatically increasing the function and capability of any motorcycle.

A bike-specific Wingrack fitting kit (sold separately) is required to install the Wingrack on your bike. Made of light, die-cast alloy, the Wingrack is available in a variety of styles and finishes for many motorcycles from the 1980s and 1990s.

The N151 Wingrack II is designed for motorcycle with rear turn indicators integrated into the rear brakelight assembly (ie VFR800). This rack requires installation using basic hand tools and a moderate degree of mechanical abilty. No cutting or welding of existing motorcycle parts is required.
