To the predatory towing ass clowns that lightened my wallet by $300 for the 30 minutes you had my truck today, I hope you both get syphilis right in your mouth and then die in a fire. You truly are the scum of the earth. I also like your bullshit about how the owner of the gravel lot with 1 towing sign 200 yards away from where I entered the lot, allegedly "called my truck in" to have it towed but apparently didn't give a crap about the other 15 cars parked around me- just that my truck must have been an easier hook and scoot. Also, lovely that you charge me miles to and from your craphole lot that clearly exists for the purpose of predatory towing, you also charge me a $150 impound fee and a full day of storage for the 10 minutes you had it. Plus a gate fee to let me have it back. Also, I want to give props to the fine police in the city of Salem that basically said "too bad, talk to an attorney and pursue things civilly if you think you are being treated unfairly" Nice to see you don't give a rat's ass about helping people or even answering questions. Obviously all you care about is writing up traffic violations. All in all, what was a great day from 6:30 to 5:15 was ruined by a towing company that had to have towed my truck no more than 5 minutes after I got out of it. I refuse to believe anyone could have called in the request for a tow, a truck drive down there, and hooked my truck and was gone in the span of the 30 minutes I was in the bicycle shop- basically you were driving by, saw a nice looking pickup in a position where you could hook it quick and you snagged it. You already got your money, not much point in lying about how it came to pass. :kaboom:
Predatory towing is such a shameful scam, thankfully some cities are making laws against it. I hope you do pursue this civilly, fight them!
I feel your pain, Parked at a truck stop/restraunt with tons of vacant spots sign said 30min parking left with my buddy was gone for about hour or so and car was gone. called police they said it had been towed and gave me number to contact them. The time that was stamped on the ticket was 7 min after we had left. Went back to the police to complain and they said there is a car pool 1/4 mile down the road you should have parked there not at a place of business.
Tow outfits are not law enforcement. They will do anything they can get away with. In court if one so chooses to go to Small Claims Court, there is no evidence that any law was broken unless a citation was written. Tow companies have attorneys of record. Parking in an area where you will get cited or towed ain't such a hot idea anytime. Tow drivers have quotas. All ya need to know about what is what is in the city regs or the law library. In Oregon and Washington, with a judges "permission" the defendent in a small claims suit can have thier attorney present. Stacked deck? Damn sure is. Want to toss sand in the gears if you have time? Ask for a change of venue or a postponement.
Thats one of the reasons I'm glad I live in a small place like Otis. I watched that TV program they had going for a while about them same towing buisness'es. I wanted to whack out them cods just watching them on TV! I noticed the area police have been busting every person on the HWY for anything they can find too. While some of the most diverse crimes have been happening in this area right under their nose's. They seem to tolerate armed robbery, Bank robberies, crime ring theft and B&E all over the place. It just doesn't pay as well I guess,, while the largest crime spree in Oregon history is going on over here on a regular basis. I was born n raised here,, just at the right time to see the whole works go right down the shit hole with them whacko's in charge.
I would submit that even in Otis one is not safe from the tow companies: Towing companies Otis, Oregon - Google Search Traffic stops and the resultant citations are revenue producers. We have our local gendarmarie doing the crosswalk thing on a semi-regular basis with the local dudes putting one foot off the curb and busting tourists and PR'ing the mullets into thinking that they are out there solving problems. Traffic stuff is nearly instant money. Busting a meth lab that could blow at any time takes time. Arrest, conviction and subsequent incarceration of armed robbers is expensive. There is some hope. Cops that take the easy way out to please the politicians sometimes get dirty. There are agencies in every state the have investigative powers that deal with dirty and nutter cops.
well I hate hearing about these things but remember in future not to park near a sign that may cuase you to get ripped off by the scubbag towtruck company....don't even try a snake lawyer they f u more then tow truck company write it off as a loss and learn from your past..... good luck..
That's the thing, there was 1 sign inconspicuously posted on a pole well over 200 yards from where i was parked with 15 other people. Mine's the only one that got towed. I mean if it was about parking enforcement they should have had a row of trucks there, because at $300 a pop, that's an additional $4500 sitting there. It was so unclear why i had been towed it took me nearly 10 minutes to find a sign saying so so I knew who the fuck to call and get my truck back. And it's a shithole company too, that clearly exists to jack people up like they did me- no AAA work, and I've been in the car business (repair) in this town for 12 years and have never heard of them- because they don't get called for repair tow work, and judging by what was in their lot, they don't get called by the city or state either. Mouth breathing donut punchers is what they are.
You MUST fight the BS for the benefit of all, otherwise it will continue. Take one for the team and nail em to a wall.
As for the civil suit- it's been my experience that anything involving lawyers will cost way more than the $300 I got hosed for already, and there is a sign, reasonably placed or not that said not to park there. Unfortunately for me, being treated unfairly by shithead legally endorsed thieves isn't against the law.
Hey Honda Tech; Similar thing happened to me a few years back, parked in a fairly large parking lot, kinda like a strip mall, met my friend there and we left in his car for a few hours.Got back and my car was not there.Looked around and there was a small sign that said cars towed after 2 hours,it also had a phone number,I was so angry I could hardly talk to the company that towed my vehicle. I guess it was a "lessons learned "thing. I havent had my car towed since and after today you probably will never have your vehicle towed again either. I am always careful where I park and I always look for tow away signs. Be thankful they didnt damage your truck and just be on the lookout for those damm signs. eddie
There really isn't much you can do. My theory is that they saw you park the truck and walk away from the venue. They had no way of knowing if the other cars were actually doing business there or not. I had the same thing happen to me in Tejas. I parked at a restaurant, and the crossed the street to a club. 45 mins later, my car's gone, and the tow truck is just making his way back. He tried to feed me some bullshit about how the the restaurant had been filing complaints about people parking there (I'd NEVER seen that lot up to half full in 6 years). I got him to give me a ride to the atm, and then to pick up my car. I truly truly truly wanted to bludgeon him to death with my steel-toes. On my way home, I saw him sitting at the unlit entrance to an apartment complex facing the restaurant lot (there was a big club right behind the restaurant). That vermin was shooting rats in a barrel. There's really nothing you can do. Being to cheap to spend $5 on valet parking cost me $180. Just be careful about where you park henceforth. They only have to see you park in someone's lot and not walk into their building. I don't mind parking a mile away and hiking back.
Dude, I'd be checking city regs on signage, towing liscenses ect. Last I looked it's about fifty bucks to file in small claims court. The maximum allowable you can sue for is seven grand. The sign is 600 ft away? Eeeek.. The first thing you may want to try to recap is any pissed off Honda owners you dealt with of recent. I would take them off my Christmas list too.
Yeah except it's a vacant gravel lot from where a furniture store burned down a couple years ago and the bicycle shop I went in is the only business on the block. I got boned with my clothes on, and that's about all there is to it. It didn't help that when i called the tow company the dude was a sawed off prick before I even lost my temper at the ridiculous price to reclaim my property. Anyway the lesson is learned, and I can guarantee I will tell everyone i come into contact with not to deal with that towing company, and I'm debating putting up my own warning signs in the lot. "Don't park here unless you want to be fleeced out of $300"
UGH! that sux. My wife got towed for parking in the parking lot for her work but she wasn't in one of their designated spots. They have like 12 employees and 8 designated spots and the only two towed were in BMWs. Now we have a Ford and so far haven't had it towed...
