I just bought a used 84 500 Interceptor with a new inspection and an 86 parts bike all for 500.00! The carbs do need some work-bike dies when you come to a stop. I will try adjusting idle speed first...

congrats? and welcome to the world. a manual is the first step for you my friend, your gonna need it. sounds to me like the idle jets are plugged. it needs a cleaning you can try the usual suspects first, like sea foam into the tank carb cleaner blah blah blah, they might work but pulling them off and giving them a cleaning manually is the best thing..... does the bike idle at a stop like after you start it up and let it warm up a bit? or is it "dying " when you come to a stop in gear.. the later would suggest that you have a clutch issue not an idle issue. but if it is "dying" while in neutral then it is a carb issue...

anyway.good luck and welcome to the world again

The bike dies at idle even in neutral-if you give it some choke you can keep it running or give it a little throttle. I am thinking it may be the idle mixture. The carbs were synced according to the last owner earlier this year. I did buy some Sea Foam an plan to add it figuring it cant hurt. If you have any other suggestions, let me know!

    Thanks

Sea Foam is probably worth a try, that's what I would do first. If that doesn't help you might need to pull the carbs to give them a thorough cleaning. Good luck!
