Looks like I have a fried starter relay. correction: magnetic starter switch
But the connector is also bad.

Where is the best place to buy a new starter relay?
is "wire my bike" the only place to get a kit to fix the connector?
What gauge wire is that for the connector?

    Thanks!

Well I can't say where the "best" place is to buy a new starter Franko, but I can tell you that Rick's Motorsport Electrics offers a rebuilt starter (part number 60-144) for your 4th gen.
Unfortunately they don't offer new starters for the 4th gen. bikes.
The price for the Rick's rebuilt starter is $205.00,and that price includes a refundable core charge for your old starter. Dunno how much that refund is because it isn't listed on the website page. Prolly have to contact them to find out.
$205.00 for the rebuilt starter seems like a steal when you consider that it'll cost you $513.00 for a brand new one (part number 31200-MZ5-003) from your local Honda dealer.
Rick's also offers a regulator/rectifier and a new stator assembly for your bike too. They don't offer starter relays though.
Can't help you with the wire guage or connector Franko,no clue.

Here's the link to Ricks Motorsport Electrics>>>>>Rick's Motorsport Electrics - Home

I just picked up a brand new Rick's starter for my Ducati 900ss last Monday, here's a pic.
    I paid $237.00 for it.
I don't even wanna know what they're charging for a new one at the Ducati dealer. :faint:

    Thanks stoshmonster
I corrected my post to indicate I only need the starter relay. not a starter. But good information you provided.
I'll keep it in case I need that later.

So, I'll be shopping for the starter relay.
I see I need to rebuild the connector. There is a kit for that.

    Okay,no probs Franko.

Just for reference the stock 4th gen. starter relay part number is 38501-GN2-014 and it costs about $39.00 at the Honda dealer.

Thank a lot. ordering was easier knowing the part #.
It was $43 at my local Honda dealer.
Plus got a chance to get a close look at the new VFR.
I still don't know if I like it.

Actually, the part number I needed was:

    SW, STARTER MAGNETIC

    Mfg. Part Number: 35850-MT4-000

    It was about $90.00

    OOPS! ^^^^^
Looks like we kinda got the nomenclature a little mixed-up Franko. You were asking about the starter relay, part number 24 in this pic. That was the part number I listed in my post.

And what you really needed was the magnetic starter switch, part number 8 in this pic.
    Sorry,my bad.
I shoulda caught that,it's the part you showed in your pic.

If you do get that wire connector repair kit Franko could you maybe post up a pic and a part number.
My 6th gen. uses that exact same 35850-MT4-000 starter switch and it would be some good info to have handy if I ever run into that same electrical problem.

    Nah. not your fault.
I started with the incorrect name.
Anyway, this sets me back a week from riding.
    But it's ok.

I will post pics of all the items.

    Thanks
