I was under the impression that up to a gen 5 right hand switch would fit a gen 2 86 750 without modifications.
Well, I got the 2000 RH switch last night and proceeded to put it on and it seems the diameter of the handlebar is a little too thick for the switch screws to properly close and secure the switch.
Should I be getting a dremel and doing a little grinding to make it properly fit?

Are the you sure the locating pin is in the bar correctly? Had no issues when I put mine on.

I guess I'll have to take a looky, I didn't know these had locating pins on them or someone took mine off before I got it.
I did not see any locating pin on the 2000 switch I bought.
Do you happen to have a pic of this by chance?

It is just a little tab bent up off of the metal backing on the inside of the control body, easy to not notice.

OK, that tab is not on the 2000 switch I bought, instead there is a decent sized post further to the right than the tab (about 1/4" diameter).
So it looks like I will have to drill a hole on the bottom of the bar or grind and cut (or if I can pull it out) the post.

What precipitated this was no lights when I turned the key which got me to finally buy a new starter switch and then led to testing the ignition switch and then realizing that the damn battery was mostly shot (should have just tested that in the first place but the damn charger was indicating a float condition when hooked up).

Without the locating pin hooked in properly the switch has an annoying tendency to move around.:livid:

Ok, finally got some time in to mark the hole and drill it and it fits after putting a new pin hole in.
Now I just need to get a new battery on to replace the fried one that precipitated all this busy work.
