I was just changing the oil on my gen 5 (1999) and maybe I never noticed it or maybe I'm just paranoid but I pulled the right and left side fairing off as, in addition to changing the oil, I thought i would do a cleaning of the engine and the inside of both panels for the heck of it.

The right side panel comes pretty close to the exhaust headers and I didn't notice any type of reflective shielding tape or anything that would protect the plastic and the paint.

Is there supposed to be but perhaps it fell off?

Is this a problem? There's no paint damage or plastic damage so I guess it's been fine but anyone have any concern about this and do something about it?

    Thanks!

None on mine. Only piece of plastic that I have that has heat protection is the black piece at the base of the two lowers at the front of the engine. My sides have some black foam for contact protection.
