Hi guys. Ive got a small prob with my 92 Vfr 750 headlights. Started one night after using my highbeams. When i flicked back to normal headlights they failed to illuminate. I tried my highbeams again which worked fine. But each time i flicked back down to normal they fsilrd to light up. Then at one point while passing through a well lit area the normal headlights suddenly lit up without warning. It had been about a minute since last flicking between highbeam and back. I tried flicking between the two settings again. Initially all seemed fine as the lights lit up on both settings, but after a couple if switching it went back to only working on highbeam and the normal swtting reilluminating after a minute or so. Talk about temperamental. Then it started doing iton start up. Bike would start essily enough but no headlights for a minute then suddenly they worked. Then they became very dim, even while running. And then finally instead of both bulbs working dimly, the bike has started to only light up one bulb (nice and bright though) and th chen randomly choose which side to light up on start up. Highbeam continues to function correctly with both bulbs fully illuminating. Anybody got any ideas. A mate of mine said something about relays.

I'm sure somebody who actually knows what they are talking about will help out soon. In the meantime two questions, does your model have only 1 side that lights up when in the normal position like the 4th gen, or should they both be on all the time? And do you have a switch to turn the lights on and off? Seeing as they will both work (albeit intermittently) it shows that they are actually functional. I would give all the connections and earths a good going over, and spray some switch cleaner into the switches first and see if that helps.

Sounds like dirty switch contacts-- look for built-up black carbon residue on the contacts holding them open.

Take that fuse cover off on the right side and inspect the fuse for the headlights. Dollars to donuts, thats your problem, bad contact. When you have the problem, press down gently on that 30 amp fuse and I bet those headlights come on. I ended up replacing the entire wiring harness, but thats another story.
