I have a questions to ask regarding gear shifting. I recently purchased 2002 VFR 800 with ABS. I put about 1000 km on motorcycle already and noticed that every so ofteT I can't change from 2nd to 3rd gear. When I engage clutch and change to 3rd from 2nd, it still stays in 2nd gear. It can happen 1 to 3 times (my attempts to change gears), and then changes to 3rd gear. It doesn't happen all the time and its not consistent whether I'm changing at 5,000 RPM or7,000 RPM, etc. As well, some times it works like a charm, and I have no difficulty changing gears at all. Any suggestion what the problem might be? or recommendations where to start looking? Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to the forum.

I can't say I've had an issue with not being able to change gears, however, I have noticed that when my oil is "old", some of my shifts become clunky. Yea, I know - not a real mechanical explanation. Can't hurt to change the oil, especially considering you've just recently purchased. After that: I'm at a loss.

As Pliskin said change your oil to Mobil 1 and see if it better. Help if you rep your engine a bit before shifting
