I have a 1986 VF1000R and it seems that the gear shift lever has gotten a little loud and harder to shift with my foot. Sometimes it takes a couple clicks to get into 3rd, for example, too. What maintenance should I do for this? I am sure it is minor and may just require something simple to check or standard maintenance that I am forgetting.

It ran perfectly fine on my 690 mile ride from Colorado to Texas, but has gotten progressively clunkier in shifting. Louder and stiffer.

I am new to actually owning a motorcycle so sorry if the question seems weird, but I am still learning all the standard maintenance stuff.
