Hi All, I am pretty new to this riding on the street thing and am looking to pick up some gear. I currently have all the gear....but most of it was "loaned" to me and I would like to be able to give it back. I have an old Aerostitch suit and really like the fact that it zips together. So, I am looking for a jacket and pant combination that I can zip together....so do you have to match the jacket and pant manufacturer to get them to zip? are they standardized? Meaning: can I put together A-stars jacket and Icon pants? Thanks
I do not have the pants but the 3 jackets I got from 3 differnt companies the zippers are the same. hit a cycle place in your area that has the pants in stock and give it a shot.
Unfortunatly gear is not standardized,specifically A-Stars. I wear an A-Star get up and it, to my knowlege, will only zip togather with other A-star gear. A* A-10 leather pants and an A* stage jacket is what I use. They zip togather and make for a perfect agressive riding road set up with some occasional track duty. If I were on the track more I would use a one piece however. You can always have a tailor match zippers up on anything for a little extra. Most likely a cheap and heavy wannabe version of pizza would get him to do it.
check the zipper thread sizes if they are the same it does not matter what you zip together zippers made in china by well....
From what I've seen, whether you buy a jacket or pant, most of them already have a 2 piece zipper, with one part already attached to the garment, and the other piece is the removable part of the zipper. This removable piece can then be sewn onto the opposing garment. So if you buy an A* pant, you should be able to take the loose part of the zipper and have someone sew it onto your "Olympia" jacket. Either way, good job in getting the gear! You say you are new to street riding. Sounds like a have a good head on your shoulders so do yourself a favor and take a class or two as well.
Did you want to get full circle zipper or on that just zips in back? As mentioned the best way is to try zipping what you want together at the store. A full zip match will be hard to find from diff companys. But as already mentioned you can get the back zip put on to match shouldn't cost much. I'd probably go to a car/bike sewing shop...
Thanks for getting back so quick! I guess I will have to make the ride up to DC to try on some gear. Southern MD does not have any good motorcycle gear shops (that I know of). Sounds like it is easy enough to make it work if it comes down to that. I plan on getting a one piece track suit (and track bike) eventually when I get a couple years of riding under my belt. BTW I have taken the MSF Basic course, and since I work on a military base I have to have a class every three years and will be taking the ERC course in the not so distant future. :thumbsup:
