I think you are wasting your money on premium. I run what the manual says. That is what the engine was designed to run its best on. Have put over 42K miles since august 06 on my 06 and haven't looked back. But 115 miles on a tank seems extremely low to me. But I concede, I know nothing about the 3rd gens.

directed at randy ( jay posted before I posted back - I didnt think to quote )

Well I do know that your bike gets 50+ advertised, mine is 18 years old ( she is barely legal heheh ) I think mine wont get that...ever. But yes mine seems low to me.
Thanks for the input, I am gonna hope another gen 3 gets on and tells me what they get.
A quick google search told me my 85 was getting GOOD mileage at 15mpg ( seriously LOL ) so I wonder if 30-ish isnt so bad.

    She runs great tho.

    Thanks again

Mine's an 05 but 115 to reserve is just not right. That's 23 miles per gallon, my car gets that when I'm delivering pizza! Looks like your VFR needs some shop time...

I have noticed that my gas lite turns on very early as well ( it doesnt take as much to fill up as I expected it too )

I will go research what we are supposed to get, and how big the tank is, and post back.

I have a day job, the pizza delivery is part time for fun money. I may have to wait a bit and save up (as I did with my VFR) but when I pay for something, it's paid for, with no monthly BS to follow. My point is there is no way any car in city traffic like mine should be seeing better mileage than any bike, not even an HD...

PS: Yes, it is damned good pizza!

The fuel guages are non-linear. Figure roughly a gallon reserve. Mileage is a kind of "it depends" thing. I ride at sea level with a few but not a whole bunch of stoplights/ signs ect. That might be called mileage A. On ocassion I ride the slab. Sometime the slab is topped out at 55mph sometimes at 70mph. lets call that mileage B sub 1 & sub 2. Sometime I ride in the mountains. There are some passes in Washington that are 5k'. The guys that did the Mount Rainer ride can tell that story. Lets call that mileage C. Mileage C has a whole set of variables attached. First the climb which depends on the slope of the grade. How long the pass is, if there are smokies lurking when ya hit the top of some or it's clear sailing at somewhere above the double nickel, the ambient temp and barometric pressure and then the grade of the downslope all figure in.

Ballpark mileage: less than 25 sometimes, as much as 40+ sometimes.

Reality check is IMO if it needs fuel. Do it,or sit there and watch the world go by. The alternative is a Honda 90 with a milk crate strapped on the back.

Well I did a littlw math, my reserve light comes on when I have 1 gallon left ( I know because my 4 gallon tank only takes 3 gallons if I fill up right when my light turns on ).
So out of 3 gallons I am getting 115 miles.
    115/3=38
I get 38 mpg round town.

I bet I would get over 40 if my trip to work had more freeway. Its 7 minutes each way on the road, not highway.

Sounds like my problem is paying too much attention to that light.

The P.O. ( TOE CUTTER ) told me that when the light turned on I still had a bunch of fuel left, sounds like he was right!

Google also says my minumum octane is 91. Gonna look a little further on that one and report back...Owners manual is under the seat, wll look there first.

That's a good estimate for your run back and forth to work. Another factor is that the fuel warning light is initiated by a liquid level sensor. The attitude of the bike can affect the sensor being off or on creating a margin of error. Not a big deal but a better method IMO is using the odometer and two fill ups as baselines for your mpg calculation.

I spend time in a small town in Oregon. Two ways to get to the Coast. One is give or take three miles on a state highway with all that that entails like drafting Winnebagoes, hoping the logging truck who is either hauling ass or crawling doesn't lose a load and make me go splat. Or..I can take the long route that is about ten miles with lots of neat scenery and a couple of sections where I can play like I'm Ricky Racer if there's not much traffic. Mileage? Naaaa who cares..

For tech specs on your scoot, there are several places to do a PDF download of the factory manual.
