I'm doing a weekend ride next week and figured I better do a dry run of replacing fuses while at home. To get to the circuit fuses you are required to remove the right inner-panel. I removed the two screws and clip as instructed in the manual, but then getting the panel removed was an adventure. The panel is tightly wedged in place with tabs that slot into either the instrument panel or the front panel. I eventually gave up because I was concerned that all of the twisting and forcing it seemed to require was either going to result in something breaking or getting deeply gouged (I'd vote for something breaking).

Any secrets to doing this without removing all of the surrounding bodywork?

It can break, but it does require a good amount of force.

    Tip for removing inner panel

Michael here are some pics of the little panel, these pics are of the leftside panel but the rightside panel is exactly the same.
With the two screws and the plastic clip removed reach under the back of the panel and wiggle the back of it upwards until it looks like this. At this point I found it easiest to lift the panel where the arrow is up and over the edge of the lower fairing panel (careful not to scratch the paint) and pull the panel straight back and out.

This is what the panel looks like. There are two tabs that tuck into slots on the dash panel, and there's a pin that slides into a rubber grommet on the front fairing panel. That pin is wedged tightly in that rubber grommet, that's why that panel is so hard to remove.

Here's a pic of that rubber grommet and the two dash slots where the tabs tuck into. As you can see the little panel can be removed without removing any other panels. Do yourself a favor and put a little bit of grease on the pin and rubber grommet before you install the panel. That way it will at least be a little bit easier to remove that little panel the next time. Hope this helps you.

I thought the same thing. Felt like somrthing would break before it released. It didn't. I put some clear silicone grease on the locking tabs. also if you knoe where the tabs catch you can put a slight bit of pressure on the mating piece to help it release.

    Nice pics Stosh

    I love this site:thumbsup:
