Quick question about the tank venting system...How exactly does the tank vent on a 84' 700? The manual speaks of the vent cap and I've known of other tanks that have a hose at the bottom/rear of the tank that also vents out. The reason I ask is that my bike has vapor locked once on me, I've see gas come back up through the key hole to the filler cap, and my petcock has a very slow and minimal leak. These leaks seem to be in sync with higher revs, especially when standing still. I've thought about replacing the seal in the petcock assembly but I'm thinking that its a pressure issue and I'm not really interested in tearing the petcock assembly apart just yet. So I'm thinking that I have a blocked venting system, any ideas?

I took my tank apart to remove rust and slime the inside. I noticed in the front of the tank there is a 2 inch metal tube that is bent in the middle and pointing down. I think that is the vent tube.
