Hey people. After re-painting and installing my rear cowl, I started the bike up after many months of just sitting there. I noticed that the LCD screen that serves as the fuel gauge/ trip computer is dead. I looked in the forums and can't find any reference to a common issue, so I am checking to see if anyone has had their on board computer screen die after monkeying with the bodywork. I have had it off multiple times and not run into a problem before. Now, I am concerned I might need to tear the fairings off and get my nose in there.

    Thanks all.

My bike has an undertail as well, so everything is moved around. I checked all fuses (main block and a smaller block with just a couple fuses) all connections, confirmed battery voltage is good and checked all other functions. I do have a front brake switch out, but that is confirmed as being the little microswitch. I have a new part for that on the way. The bike starts and shifts fine, neutral light is functional, kickstand kill switch is active.

My R/R is already taken care of with soldered connections. Although when I think hard, I don't recall checking that stator output voltage is good. I'll check that later this week.

I would inspect the big grey and blue connectors for corrosion and heat damage. I would also clean the orange grounding block and any connections you can find leading to the dash. Oh and definitely check your fuses.

Ya, not a common issue. I swapped the board out on mine to keep the miles correct after changing dash panels but can't remember how it was connected. Like Candy said, best I can guess at the moment is the two big connectors on the back of the gauge cluster.

Hopefully I get some time to open her up this weekend. My clock is still working, it's just the temp/fuel/trip area that is out, so maybe I should pay close attention for corroded connectors. I'll take a good look at the schematic too and see if there is a common power source.

Check the traces and solder joints on the circuit board.

    Jose,

If you haven't seen it before, there is a colorized he-rez version of the 5 Gen wiring diagram over at VFRD. This should come in real handy for you.

Maybe a silly but often overlooked suggestion: check the fuse. I had a tail light go and it took the instrument panel off line as well. Clock was on, but no fuel, no MPH, no temp.
