I've had an odd problem with my front suspension since replacing my fork seals, steering head bearings, and fork oil about a month ago. Under braking, about 2-3 inches into the fork travel, I will both hear and feel a distinct "clunk" from either the fork or the front brakes. It will happen under compression, and then again when the fork extends. I've tried compressing the fork without any other input, and can still feel the clunk, so while I originally thought it was the brakes, I'm not so sure anymore. I didn't notice it immediately after doing the fork seals, but I think it started within a week or so. I had them installed by a former mechanic who builds bikes in his garage, we didn't disassemble the cartridges or anything like that, and the only change I made was to 10WT fork oil instead of the stock weight.

I did check for loose bolts and components last night, and while I found one loose bolt holding the distribution block for the front calipers, tightening that didn't seem to make a difference. Does anyone have any insight?

Did you check under the front fairing to make sure there is no contact with the oil cooler bracket?

    Steering head bearings......

May need readjustment about 500 miles after replacement.

The fork isn't compressing anywhere near enough for anything to hit the oil cooler. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the steering bearing needing to be tightened, as it's definitely been over 500 miles since I replaced them.

Update: re-torqued the steering head, clunk is gone. Thanks for the help!
