front springs

    Will a set of front springs made by Ohlins for an 99 800 fit into a 1995 750? I know they are longer but if I make a shorter spacer then the stock one will it work.

    Many aftermarket springs require you to use a spacer as they skimp on the length of the steel ($) part. Progressive is the worst for this. If you are happy with the spring rate and can get them in with a sag/preload that you are happy with, longer springs will actually give you better action (more compression travel possible prior to coil bind) than a short spring/long spacer. IIRC the diameter of the tubes remained the same at 41mm but someone else might be able to confirm this.

    thanks dale, they are not prgressive, but they are ohlins so they have to be better then stock????

    "better" is going to depend on what they are, and what you need. The Honda stock springs are very *high quality* springs, just wayyyy too soft for an average north american rider; IIRC they are .65 kg/mm and RaceTech for one offers up to 1.0 or 1.05 depending on rider weight - you should figure out what you need first, check the RaceTech calculator it will not steer you wrong, neither will their stuff or their service.

    If you decide to go with the Ohlins, straight rate springs is a step in the right direction but you have to know the spring rate and length, know they will be the right rate and determine the spacer plus length of the apppropriate spring to make sure you will not over-preload them just getting them in. I'm not familiar enough with the newer bikes to help with that.
