Hi all, another small problem with my 92 VFR750F, when I get above 10 mph there is a noise as if something is rubbing at the front. I have checked the brakes but all is well, the callipers are very free and can be pushed back by hand and the discs are cool after a long ride. The front wheel spins freely and there is no sideplay. Could it just be the air passing through the fairing and is this normal? I don't remember it on my last one but that was a long time ago.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

what does it sound like? Metal rubbing plastic? Is there any indicator of anything rubbing on your fender?

pull in the clutch, hit the kill switch, and coast for a little ways to get a better listen and better identify the sound without the noise of the engine running.

Keager, I've had the front mudguard off when I did the fork seals and no signs of rubbing.
TinkerinWstuff, I appreciate why you suggest that, but will have to wait 'till I'm on a quiet road. Not much chance in London! I don't want to be cruising without power into trouble!

Squirrelman, hadn't thought of that, will have a look. I still believe it is coming from the front end although with the engine sound and air passing my helmet it is probably hard to say. Could it be the front wheel bearings? As I said there doesn't appear to be any sideways movement, which was always the sign of worn bearings, but could it be that they need packing with grease? I have had the wheel off to do the forks but I'm not really sure what I am looking for. As always any help is greatly appreciated.
I can't believe that there is not a UK forum like this (if there is I haven't found it yet!) but I have found this forum to be absolutely brilliant in providing the answers to all my questions, whether I have asked them or they have been asked before. Keep up the good work, there are VFR owners across the planet depending on you.

It could be wheel bearings. My VFR has always had a "swishing" sound that I always attributed to the brake pads just barely being in contact with the front rotors. Not close enough to cause drag or heat up the rotor, mind you, but just there and ready to brake...

I also had a warped carrier on my RH rotor, too. We'll see if the noise goes away this summer with my new rotors.
