I have a terrible grinding noise coming from the right front brake. I seems to be most noticeable when rolling the bike out of the garage. Once riding it seems to go away. Still seems to be braking fine, just don't want to cause further damage. I plan on taking the caliper off this weekend, but was hoping someone might have some incite.

A good clean up will help, have you check the rotor to make sure it is straight?

Clean and re-grease the slider pins when you have the caliper off.

I thought it might be the rotor as well since it does go away when riding, assuming the rotor is heating up and straightening out. I haven't noticed any visible warpage while rotating the wheel.
The previous owner claims to have replaced the pads, hopefully they were installed correctly.
I'll give it a thorough look and report my findings.
Didn't know if this was a common problem, since this is my first VFR.

Um, rolling the bike backwards out of the garage perhaps? Yes? In my opinion all floating rotors do this, or at least the ones I have owned.

That's it exactly. If this makes any sense it only grinds for part of the rotation, clears up- then continues when it hits the same spot an so on.

Turn out to be the pad spring retainer. It was dragging on the rotor. Replaced with a new one, which solved the problem. Much tighter fit on the bracket. Tension on the old one just wore out.
