Hi Keith and Welcome to the Madhouse:Welcome:

When you get time please add a post in the introductions forum tell us a bit about your riding history and your VFR. Please adda photo or two - the folks on here like photos. (It is easy - just click the "Upload a file" link and follow prompts to select and upload pictures from your computer and use "more options" to decide how you want the photo to be displayed).

As for the current question I am struggling to understand what you are asking - so as bmart has suggested the best way is probably to add a photo or two of the component you are talking about - ideally with one showing where it fits on the VFR. That way hopefully someone can offer better advice.

    Take care ATGATT

Thanks for the replies, this is the shoulder bolt(6mm) that rear seat cowl fastens with, midway through wrap around tail plastic below seat side,it secures side plastic and stays afixed even when cowl is off bike. When time permits I will attempt upload of parts diagram or photo. currently the exposed holes look like a joke and I am stumped. 2001 model in very good shape with only 10k mi. this bike deserves better. This forum site is awesome.

I forget who the vendor is, (mbe motion pro?) but there is a spring push type fastener that can replace that.
Then you dont need the cross tube theads...

Trying to clear the brain fog... :bruce2:

Hopefully these photos make it through, considering trying a Heli Coil insert depending on 1/4 inch bore ID. I cannot imagine something is amiss with this whole issue. I may have to fabricate a threaded sleeve to use any thing in a secure manner.

Upon searching parts and forums, evidently the cross tube uses a type of rubber wellnut, but I need 6mm with an OD of around a 1/4 inch which leaves a thin sleeve . parts call for 6mm Franken bolt, but something is incorrect in listings since this rubber nut insert is not even shown. If all else fails I will modify to solve the issue. Thanks for all replies.

Funny, I haven't looked at that in a while, makes me curious now.
For the frame... Might a "Rivnut" work? I have one of those tools/kit and the 6MM was what I used for another non-bike repair.
In other places I have used the shouldered rubber grommets which have a metal nut encapsulated, and those grab the mount harder as a bolt is tightened... but I don't recall seeing any in MM.

Yeah same here, I've had the tail fairing off a couple times and don't recall it being a well nut, but can't say for sure. It's possible someone drilled it out for the Sargent quick-release pins.

Best bet is to take the tail fairing off yourself and look closely. Could try an M6 helicoil depending on the drilled out diameter

You folks are great,I now believe that previously someone drilled it to 1/4 inch since the bike has a Sargeant seat. For now I just used a plastic push pin fastener. The 6mm Helicoil drill size is a few thousands smaller ,but will probably work. I really appreciate everyones comments.

If you fit fraken bolts without rear seat cowl you should install spacers in slot where cowl tabs go. Otherwise there is risk of damaging cowl.

Spacers are Honda part and on Fiche.

Well having solved this issue and getting maintenance caught up,I will focus on a proper RR upgrade that is a simple change out. After surveying numerous posts, there seems to be various options. The electrics of this era fall short of todays offerings.

Yes 1990 - 2000 were bad years for VFR regulator/rectifier issues.
