there is not much you can rebuild on them. Unless your changing the internal shims for damping. Just take it apart, clean and refill with like 5w oil. There are,if I remember right, only 3 o-rings you can replace. You can get the bladder filled with nitrogen just about any mc shop. 300psi. I do have the Fox instructions I could fax to you if you want.

NCB - I tore the old shock out of my '90 and found a LE Lindemann Engineering label on the shock body, under the spring. You know anything about these guys?

The Lindeman folks are people I would trust, without even thinking about it. Hardcore Norcal racing folks, some of the best in the biz currently.

I sent my fox shock back to them a couple of years ago and they rebuilt it for around 125. Did you call them>? Traxion Dynamics is also a good outfit.

I haven't called them. I tore the shock out of my '90 tonight anticipating the arrival tomorrow of the ebay 929 shock I just purchased. The bike rides way too soft for me and I planned on putting the 929 in and testing it out before getting it rebuilt.

I contacted RaceTech about the stock shock a few weeks ago and they said it wasn't rebuildable by the shadetree mechanic and I would have to send it in for machining. But when I removed the old shock, like I said, there is an LE label on it. It also has a gas charge nipple on the side which I don't believe came on the factory shock. The preload adjuster is exactly like the factory original so it's not like I have a special shock and don't realize it.

My Fox shock cost me, thinking...at least $650 12-15 years ago. It was sent back once to Fox for a total tear down and re-build. They sent the old parts back with the shock, still have them kicking around in the original Fox box. I replaced the stock shock at about 10,000; so my bikie in its life has had three shocks. Stock - Fox shock, then the re-built one. I doubt how well a 929 shock would work plus you dont know how bagged out it is. You could always get a new spring for the Fox you know. Well cheers anyway...Who was the women in the red skirt? A knuckle dragger such as urself is capable of getting such a nice lady? Nice blue paint job on the viffer/

    I KNOW ^^

I paid $36 shipped for my 929 just because I wasn't patient enough to wait for a better deal to come along. Considered bidding anyway and selling whichever one I didn't end up using. But, by the time I tie up shipping costs into two shocks, just doesn't make sense. Hope someone here jumps on it!

Got the 929 shock mounted up last night. found that the 1990 has a little different upper mount that what I'd seen for the 4th gen. So mounting the shock was different and more difficult. Since the upper mount is part of the alum casting on the frame, had to build a lower mount. Here's the prototype out of steel before machining a pretty part out of aluminum. No modification to the shock was required.

I'll second (third?) the recommendation for Lindemann. At least give them a call. They won't want to work on that old of a bike, but if you take the shock off, they'll probably work on it. They rebuilt the forks for my '86 VFR about 2 years ago. New springs (1kg/mm), revised the damper rod openings, replaced all the seals/bushings. Total transformation of the bike.
