So I thought the 2002 was supposed to have preload adjustment on the forks, but mine has no dial at the top? I've never had a bike with this option so maybe I'm being dumb but I thought there should be dials at the top of the fork tubes? What's going on? Are these aftermarket clip ons that I have or are these stock?

It looks like you have bar risers underneath the clip ons. It also looks like the PO put caps over the top of the forks. Can you pop off the black cap on the top of the forks easily? You should see slotted centers on the fork.

I couldn't pop the caps off, but yeah I think you are right it looks like there are risers under the bars. That seems like a stupid design, put on your risers and you cant even adjust your forks?

You might want to see if you can loosen the clip on or even take it off temporarily to see if you can access the fork underneath. I'm pretty sure that you have the stock forks (due to the linked braking system and caliper setup that the VFR has) and that the caps are covering your preload adjusters.

If you don't want the caps I'll take em. They look like they were donors from a Kawasaki ZG1000.
If you loosen the clip-ons a bit you should be able slide a flat blade screwdriver or something under them and they'll slide out.

I'm not 100% positive they are. However I saw on here somewhere a "lookee what I got" sort of a post where a member did a swap of stock clipons for some high rise Concours handlebars. Having previously owned a Connie with handlebar risers installed and having the same question as the OP regarding pe-load adjustment I simply put 2+2 together. The Concours handlebar risers come with those caps. If it turns out they are from a Connie then you can goto C10 KB Stepper Service Pack and buy them for $12.50, and I think shipping is always free!!
