I'm looking to do a fork conversion for my 1990 VFR. What do I need to look for in regards to compatible replacement forks? Do most forks from Honda models fit the stock VFR triple clamps? Tell me your secrets!

What I was thinking is yanking some forks off of a late model Honda (CRB or something) and popping them on the ol' Viffer... I heard somewhere of someone putting fairly new CBR forks on an older VFR and I'm wondering whether there was much fabrication that had to be accomplished to get those to work.
I have good plastic and like the styling of the fairing but would like to get the updated brakes and suspension of the later bikes if possible.

Honestly... I just got the bike back together and running and need an excuse to tear it apart again.

    Honestly is the best policy.

Not a clue about retrofitting. Gold valved my 91 about ten years ago, no problems , no leaky for seals ect.

If is was me, I'd do the Gold Valves and take the rest of the pesos and get a good seat for The Springfield Mile..

The easy hot setup is the complete front end from a 929/954. Great USD forks, new triples, brakes, etc, etc, use that wheel or maybe the CBR wheel.

I went with the 2001 R1 USD forks (GOLD, revalved, resprung to Hyperpro specs) in 2000 RC51 upper and lower triples, R1 brakes, stock wheel and rotors. Looks tre cool, works great. Used adjustable clip ons.

Your $$$, your choice. Just watch the length to triples, too low really speed up steering, can be bottoming danger.

When I joined this site, I saw that Holland bike, hell of a nice piece for sure. I got gold valves for the past 19 years and have only done fork seals once and done the oil changes a few times.

There have been people that did the R1 swap along with some sods that did a TL1000 swap. IMHO, its not worth it, there are problems with clearance of your radiators etc, even if you do that swap, your still gona have to pop for a rear shock so your viffer does'nt ride like a Cadillac with worn oot/bagged oot suspension.

I have seen that one too, I like the holland bike, its pretty kewel. I think the next gen bike Gen 4 lends itself to some far oot customizing as I have seen some with cbr600 fairings and tail sections with under-seat exhausts. Remember stock is stock is stock. Some shit is better left untouched, mine is perfectly set up and thats aboot it really. A rear brake re-build in the future? Got a pet cock sitting on the tool box. Everything is very well sorted oot for sure. Cheers...

You don't want to go using other bikes' forks just because they fit. Ride height, springing, valving, working range are all considerations when switching and all my need adjusting or handling will be worse than OEM. Good reason to do improvements on stock forks.
